How to determine the correct label size

  1. Measure your packaging

Before ordering your label, it is important to accurately measure the surface on which it will be applied.

✔️ For bottles and jars (cylindrical):

  • Measure the height (H) – from the bottom edge to the top, where the label should end.
  • Measure the circumference (C) – this is the horizontal length of the label.
  • Formula for calculating the circumference:
    C = diameter × 3.14 (π)

✔️ For boxes, containers (rectangular):

  • Measure the width (W) – the length of the side where the label will be glued.
  • Measure the height (H) – the height of the label.

🔹 Example calculation:

  • Your bottle is 8 cm in diameter and 15 cm in height.
  • Circumference (label length) = 8 × 3.14 = 25.12 cm.
  • If the label should cover the entire surface, order 25 × 15 cm.
  1. Consider bleeds for printing

To prevent white edges from appearing after trimming, add +2-3 mm around the perimeter.

🔹 Example:
If the final label size is 100 × 50 mm, send the layout to print 104 × 54 mm.

  1. How to determine the size for heat shrink labels

📌 Heat shrink film shrinks when heated, so it is important to take into account the shrinkage coefficient.

✔️ Normal shrinkage: from 5% to 30% depending on the material
✔️ For complex shapes (bottles with curves) – test the sample before printing

Example:
If the package is 20 cm high, and the shrinkage is 10%, the final label size = 20 ÷ 0.9 = 22.2 cm.

  1. Test before ordering

✔️ Print the layout on plain paper and stick it on the package.
✔️ Check if the size is suitable and if the text is not distorted.
✔️ Make sure that important elements (logo, barcode) are not in the bending zone.
